Arlington Emergency Shelter

Members of St. John's prepare and serve meals for Arlington Emergency Shelter two Sunday evenings a month; November through March. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall.

Secret Santa

Every year, during the Christmas season, St. John's participates in the Arlington County "Secret Santa" Project. We provide gifts to a needy family assigned by the county, including clothes and other requested items, as well as gift cards for food and other non-perishables.

Spanish Mission

St. John's supports local Hispanic citizens by serving as the host church for Spanish-speaking Episcopal mission, La Iglesia de Cristo Rey

Financial Assistance

Ten percent of all funds raised by the church are given to those outside the church, such as local agencies which help the needy. The Rector's Discretionary funds are used to assist those in cases of financial emergencies.

United Thank Offering

This offering, collected in May and November, expresses our thanks to God for our many blessings. Every penny collected is used throughout the world for missions and in response to compelling human needs.

Meals on Wheels

Several of our parishioners work with Meals on Wheels, which delivers food to the homebound and provides a bit of company to people who are often lonely.

Ann Stribling Scholarship Fund

The Ann Stribling Scholarship Fund at Virginia Theological Seminary honors a former rector who was very involved with the education of seminarians. Contributions may be sent to Ed Hall, Virginia Theological Seminary, 3737 Seminary Road, Alexandria, VA 22304. Make checks out to VTS and mark them for the Ann Stribling Scholarship Fund.

Fair Trade Coffee

Once a month our youth sell fair trade organic coffees and teas. The profits from the sales go to a charity the youth select.

Heifer Project

During our Christmas pageant we take up an offering for the Heifer Project, which provides farm animals and other supplies to those in third world countries.

Morning Guild Teas

The St. John’s Morning Guild raises money for charitable causes by hosting a tea twice a year, in November and April. Proceeds are donated to various organizations. The proceeds of the April 2006 tea were donated to Habitat for Humanity to build houses for Hurricane Katrina victims.

The Arlington Interfaith Council

St. John’s is a member of the Arlington Interfaith Council, a group of religious organizations that support a number of “helping hands agencies” in Arlington that make many services available to those who need help, including feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, providing medical care and other emergency needs.

Church Meeting Space

St. John’s provides continuing meeting space for various organizations, including Alcoholics Anonymous, a Girl Scout Troop and an interest group that focuses on dolls.
